ABOUT
Flavian has always believed very strongly that she and her sister, Farrow, were placed in a basket in the Kessig province of Innistrad to be sacrificed to the monsters of the forest. She considers their rescue by their mothers, Thalisse and Verity, her first accidental act of defiance to the natural order, though certainly not the last.
Flavian grew up following her monster-hunter mothers through danger as much as they'd allow, never scared enough and always enthralled by their quarry. She grew up soft and pleasant, as though perhaps she was a prey animal, eager to be underestimated. She read everything her parents owned regarding their profession, but that research stumbled quickly into the necromantic arts, which fascinated her even more.
It was that area of interest, actually, that led her to rope her sister into a ritual they found in an old book. It said it was a chance at communicating with spirits who would communicate their desire to go to Strixhaven. Which Flavian really wanted to do; she loved Innistrad in its twilight gloom, but she had to branch out to really learn. To her secret delight and outward relative smugness, the seance worked, and they both got letters a few weeks later.

appearance
Flavian has the distinct look of someone attempting to tap into death magic all day, with big haunted eyes and a complexion that betrays her sunlight-deficient home realm. She covers this with pressed-and-perfect pastel button-downs and skirts. She conveys a soft, gentle, animated presence, but sometimes stares a little too long without blinking and smiles just a little too vacantly to be fully called cheerful.

Flavian's
Flavian's goal in studying the necromantic arts is not immortality. It's more. Flavian has studied the dangers of her art, and knows that lots of creatures have tasted that and still been miserable, or dependent on something forever, like her mother. Not Flavian. She would like to conquer death, to become so comfortable with it that she can walk in and out of its grip at her leisure, shedding and picking up vessels to walk the world in so that her birth heritage doesn't matter. She wants to enshroud and protect the souls of those she loves so they're never lost to her. Maybe she should just go to therapy but probably she won't.
